How it works
The image is drawn entirely in your browser from the same moon-phase calculation used across this site (a mean synodic month algorithm, accurate to within about half a day of the true astronomical moment). Common questions
What format is the downloaded image?
A PNG by default, sized for sharing on social platforms or as a phone/desktop wallpaper. There's also an SVG download if you want a vector file for printing.
Is my chosen date sent anywhere?
No. The image is generated entirely in your browser using JavaScript and never touches a server.
Can I generate an image for a future date?
Yes -- pick any date, past or future, and the tool will calculate that day's moon phase the same way.
Can I add a name or message to the image?
Yes -- there's an optional caption field above the generate button. Leave it blank for just the phase name, illumination, and date.
